Invisalign® is an orthodontic treatment that straightens teeth using removable and discreet clear aligners! When getting Invisalign treatment, it’s important to maintain proper cleaning and care to ensure your health and hygiene. Here are some of our tips to help you properly maintain your Invisalign aligners and achieve the best results from your treatment.

How To Clean Your Invisalign

Cleaning your Invisalign properly maintains optimal dental health and prevents the aligners from becoming discolored. Here’s the best way to clean Invisalign

Brush Your Aligners

Brush your aligners twice daily with mild soap and water to remove any food particles or bacteria that may have accumulated on the surface. Be sure to get into all the nooks and crannies of your aligners! Avoid using toothpaste, as it may scratch the surface and damage the aligners.

Soak Your Aligners Daily

Every few days, be sure to soak your aligners in a cleaning solution. To clean and freshen your Invisalign trays, add the recommended amount of Invisalign cleaning crystals to water, and soak the aligners for 15 minutes. After soaking, brush the trays, rinse them thoroughly, and put them back in your mouth. This will remove any odor, bacteria, or stains from the trays.

How To Care For Invisalign

Cleaning is only part of caring for Invisalign. Here are some things to remember during your Invisalign treatment:

Store Aligners In Their Case

Anytime you take out your aligners, make sure you put them back in your case! It may be tempting to put them in a napkin when you take them out to eat–but believe us, we see many patients whose aligners get lost or thrown away! Make a habit of returning your Invisalign to their case, and they’ll be easier to keep track of.

Rinse Aligners When You Take Them Out

Make sure you rinse your aligners every time you take them out! This removes lingering plaque, food particles, or bacteria that can get trapped against your teeth. When left unchecked, this can cause cavities and staining.

Do Not Eat With Aligners In

Never eat with your aligners in! Also, avoid drinking anything other than water when they are inserted. Keeping your aligners clear of sugars, food particles, and bacteria is key to maintaining dental health during your treatment.
